Did You Know?

Did You Know?

Around 20% (vs. 40% 25 years ago) of the campus budget comes from the State of Illinois. As another example of how we are now state assisted rather than state supported, in 1980, the University received $7 for every $1 of tuition that we took in. Today, that number is $0.75 for every $1 of tuition raised. Private support is a critical element in helping the department bridge this funding gap.

Alumni & Friends

Make a Gift

Although you may not know it, alumni support paved the way for your journey as a student. Today, generous support from alumni, friends, and corporations is more essential than ever to the success of IESE. You are investing in the education of tomorrow’s engineering leaders who will change the world, and this investment is one that can literally grow right before your eyes. It grows in terms of collaborations, resources, student scholarships and faculty support. You are impacting the curriculum, research, financial aid, and technology innovations. To stay competitive and on the leading edge of engineering education and research it is imperative for us to continually invest in all areas of the department. As the stature of the department grows in the national rankings, so too will the value of your degree that proudly states “I’m an Illinois engineer” (alumni participation rates in giving back to the department are one factor in national ranking determinations).

Our new department now has over 5,200 alumni and the giving rate is less than 5%. While our goal is 100% participation, we would love to have at least a quarter of our graduates supporting the department. This would put us well above any other department in the college where the overall rate is 10%. HELP US SET THE BENCHMARK! Aerospace – 6%, Civil and Environmental – 6%, Computer Science 4%, Electrical and Computer Engineering – 3%, Materials Science – 7%, Mechanical – 4%, Nuclear Plasma and Radiological – 9%, Physics – 7%, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics – 10% *

Last fiscal year, the department raised almost $52,000* through its annual fund efforts. The highest grossing department in the college was Electrical and Computer Engineering at $168,000*. While perhaps challenging (given that ECE has over 16,000 alumni), could IESE top this category as well? If every alum gave just $50, the department would raise $260,000. Imagine what that could do for our students!.

Thank you in advance for your contribution! There are several methods through the University of Illinois Foundation for gift contribution or pledge payment. You may choose to make your contribution via the online, secure link on this page, or by mail with either a check or credit card. You may also elect to use the convenience of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to make your gift. When making your gift, please be sure that it is designated to the IESE DEPARTMENT, or note that it is for support of one of the special funds.

Don’t forget your MATCHING GIFT. Some companies will match, double, or even triple your contribution! There are more than 7,500 companies that participate in this program (to see if yours is among them, click on the following link, or talk to your Human Resources Office.

In many cases, retired employees, spouses of employees, or widows and widowers of former employees will be eligible for this program. You receive credit for the entire gift, both direct and matching.

We are grateful for you and the contribution you make on a daily basis to the success of IESE. You give your degree and alma mater a face, and for that we say thank you!
